Post Induction Training School (POINTS) Programme
The Post Induction Training School (POINTS) at DIAT (DU), Pune is a unique initiative of DRDO to impart integrated training to the newly inducted scientists at the beginning of their scientific and professional careers. This training programme’s main objective is to train the bright young scientists in a highly specific manner to teach amongst them a deep sense of scientific temper, innovativeness, and tenacity to achieve the set objectives in the most trying situations. Also, to motivate and inspire them to pursue an exciting but challenging research career in Defence Science and Technologies by continually enhancing their scientific capabilities and technological skills.
This programme includes visits to various Field Units of the Armed Forces (Army/Navy/Air-force). During the visits, the Scientists are required to be familiarized with the functioning of the Armed Forces in the field environment to orient themselves to the Services’ functioning in the context of end-user needs. Also, to provide an opportunity to understand the services’ difficult working conditions and types of equipment. Interact with service officers to understand their perspective of the research requirements of the services. Enable them to gain insight into the functioning of Army, Navy, Air Force, the lives of Defence personnel located in remote/forward areas of the country, and operation of equipment at these locations.
To motivate the DRDO Scientists to plan their future projects so that DRDO can satisfy the services’ requirement.
