About DIAT

The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, (DIAT) as it is known today, came into being as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952 in the CME campus.In 1967, the Institute was renamed as “Institute of Armament Technology, (IAT)”, which moved to its present location at Girinagar, Pune. From the relatively narrow scope of Armament Studies alone in the Fifties, the role of the Institute was considerably enlarged by the Defence R&D Council in 1964 and further in 1981.On the basis of accreditation by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Pune University recognised eight courses for the award of ME degree in 1980. In the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed to be University. IAT has been renamed as DIAT w.e.f. 1st April 2006.

Latest News From DIAT

At the 53rd ISTE National annual convention, which KISS University, Bhuveneswhar, organized on June 22, 2024, Dr. Dineshsingh Thakur, a Professor at DIAT, was awarded the ISTE’s Prof. Arumugam National award for innovative work in engineering and technology for the year 2023.

The first company incubated at DIAT (DU), Pune, Navyukti Innovations Pvt Ltd., was awarded a patent for “A Non-Invasive Device and a Method to Detect Hemoglobin Concentration in Blood,” which was published on 19th August 2024. Heartfelt congratulations to the company’s Director, Dr. Sangeeta Kale, Professor(HAG) and Dean (SR), DIAT, Pune.

IEEE Pune AP/MTT/EMC Joint Chapter (JCAME) won first place in the 2024 IEEE AP-S Outstanding Chapter Award, given to Dr. K P Ray, Professor of DIAT and Co-Chair of JCAME, during the International Symposium & ITNC-USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, July 14–19, 2024, in Florence, Italy.
