Our Legacy

DIAT traces its origin to 1 May 1952, when it was established as the Institute of Armament Studies at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune. In 1967, it was renamed the Institute of Armament Technology (IAT) and later shifted to its present campus at Girinagar, Pune.

Over the decades, the Institute expanded its academic and research scope under the guidance of the Defence Research & Development Council. Recognising its academic excellence and national relevance, the Government of India granted it the status of Deemed to be University in 2000. With effect from 1 April 2006, the Institute was renamed as Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT).
