About Us

The Department of Technology Management at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune established in 2014 and is dedicated to developing expertise in the management of technology-driven organizations, particularly in the domains of defence, aerospace, and strategic industries. The department integrates principles of engineering, management, innovation, and policy to address the challenges associated with technology development, acquisition, commercialization, and deployment.

The department offers academic programs and research opportunities in areas such as Technology Management, Project Management, Innovation Management, Quality Management, Supply Chain Management, Defence Technology Management, Technology Forecasting, Intellectual Property Management, and R&D Management. Through interdisciplinary teaching and research, the department aims to equip students and professionals with the skills required to manage complex technological projects and support strategic decision-making.

The department actively collaborates with DRDO laboratories, defence industries, academic institutions, and government organizations to undertake research, consultancy, and training programs. Its focus is on fostering innovation, enhancing indigenous technological capabilities, and contributing to the national objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat and self-reliance in critical technologies. Through its academic and research activities, the Department of Technology Management plays a significant role in bridging the gap between technology development and effective management practices.

In 2025, the Department of Technology Management combined with Defence Technology to form the School of Defence Technology and Management. The scope becomes more broader to facilitate the MTech in Defence Technology course for newly inducted DRDO Scientists.

To be a globally recognized centre of excellence in Technology Management, fostering innovation, strategic leadership, and sustainable technological advancement to strengthen national security and contribute to societal progress.

Mission

To impart high-quality education and research in Technology Management, Project Management, Innovation Management, and related disciplines to develop competent professionals and leaders.
To promote interdisciplinary research and knowledge creation that addresses emerging challenges in defence, strategic sectors, and technology-driven organizations.
To strengthen industry, academia, and government collaborations for technology development, transfer, commercialization, and capacity building.
To foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategic thinking for enhancing indigenous technological capabilities and supporting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
To contribute to national development and defence preparedness through consultancy, training, policy support, and effective management of technology-intensive systems.
